The UK SUP racing scene has really taken off this year with loads of races either organised by BSUPA or via local clubs / individuals. To date all races have somewhere below swansea. [I think the closest race to us up here was probably in Amsterdam!]

Anyway - racing is fun - not too serious, just good fun especially in challenging winds and swells!

So the question is would anyone be interested in doing some just for fun racing off the north east cost. Any board any ability??

We could go short out to the point sprints with a beach launch? A longer distance pier to pier / tyne to wear run?

How about a Great North Paddle?

Hi Dave,

Still waiting to hear back from North Tyneside Council about possibly funding? I suspect the event would attract limited interest at the moment but may be worth doing if they'll foot the bill.

We do have some regular guys down on the Tees who might be interested in some kind of racing so I'll run it by them.

Did some extreme downwinding at the mouth of the Tees the other week which was fun. I'm up for doing a coastal mission at some point soon so keep me posted.

I've still got a couple of 9'8'' and that Bonga 10'6'' if you're interested?

Hopefully some decent swell once the wind dies

I would be keen on some down wind - let me know next time your out that way and I'll head down. There is quite a good down stream / down wind to be had on the Wear - parking at both ends easy launch about 2-3miles and it howls down the river channel Dave

Plenty of wind the last week Dave. The weekend looks promising for some wave action. We're thinking of busting out the video camera over the next couple of days if you want to get involved?
